Which Bank is Paying High Interest Rates in Nepal
The bank interest rates in Nepal are decided by Nepal Rastra Bank. But the commercial banks can increase or decrease the interest rates without exceeding the maximum or minimum rates set by Nepal Rastra Bank.
However, we have pointed both the maximum & minimum interest rates on the savings accounts. And also the maximum interest rate on fixed deposit for personal & institutional accounts.
To get the maximum interest rate in many banks you have to choose the special or premium account type that means you have been charged for account opening or maybe some amount will be on hold until you operate the account.

How To Choose Correct Bank Account Type If I Am A…
Bank Products And Services
Many commercial banks are offering free account opening & some banks are charging for the service. Most of the bank offers free checkbook, debit card, ABBS, mobile & internet banking.
The banks are offering many types of accounts. Such as saving, fixed, current, dmat, salary, FCY known as foreign currency account USD, GBP & EUR.
As well they are serving a variety of loans. Such as personal loan, home loan, vehicle loan, business loan, education loan, gold loan, mortgage loan & property loan.
Each citizen of our country has the right to open a bank account. Even Nepalese citizens residing in a foreign nation can open online bank accounts in Nepal without appearing in the bank.
As well the foreign citizen or NRN non-residential Nepalese can also open a bank account in Nepal. For foreign citizens, they must be residing, earning, or trading in this country. For NRN they need an NRN ID card.
To open a bank account, you need a photograph, identity proof & address proof which is compulsory. Maybe the bank will demand other relevant documents.
You can visit the bank physically or Nowadays many banks have the facility to open an online bank account. Just you have to fill the online form & submit it on their sites you’ll get your account number instantly by email or SMS.
The Best Bank By Comparing The Services
Let’s talk about not only the interest rates but, also about the services of the banks. Many banks are paying high interest but their services are so bad. I’m not going to point the bad services bank’s name here. But I am going to tell you the banks having good services in my opinion.
Nepal Investment Bank
To be honest, in terms of service the first name comes in mind is Nepal Investment Bank. There are many instant services where the customer has not to wait for a week or months. Like a password reset of internet banking or mobile banking. Check on demand instantly. Especially the ATM machine works great each time.
Nabil Bank
The second name that comes in my mind is Nabil Bank which services also very good. Especially for debit cards & credit cards, where the bank always offering discounts & cashback to the customer. On many online sites, you get a heavy discount with Nabil bank. Surprisingly, it supports payment on many Nepalese as well on Indian shopping sites too.
NMB Bank
The third one is NMB Bank which has a high interest too. The bank is best for its debit cards which support most of the ATMs of our country without any transaction charges. Now many banks are offering such a transition charge free debit card. But still, the NMB debit card is the best. Even withdrawal in India is also a minimum transaction fee among theses all banks.
SANIMA Bank
The fourth one is Sanima Bank if you are NRN or staying out of country forget those three banks which have been discussed above. Sanima bank started by NRNs & they better know the banking problems while staying out of the country. So Sanima Bank enters the banking industry with solutions. The service offered by Sanima Bank is far better than other banks such as account opening, account types, domestic/international debit cards, domestic/international credit cards, sanima express remittance, loan facilities.

Hello Admin,
I want to fixed deposit 5 lakh for 3years which bank will give high FD interest ? And how much interest I’ll get in 3 year? After tax deduction.
Hope to get reply.
Hi Deepika Ji, You can go with Prime Commercial Bank or with Civil Bank Ltd both are paying 8% on FD, at end of maturity you’ll get RS 614000 after tax deduction.
Dear sir,
I’m planing to deposit Rs 15-17 lakh in fix deposit for 1 year and another thing is that there are only two banks giving it’s service where i live. They are PCBL and NIBL.Which one is the best among these two and are they a good bank for FD? Can we get it’s intrest as monthly pay or not? I’m not clear about these all. So,Plz hope u help to make me clear about these all !!🙏
Hi Mani Ji, kindly go with Prime Commercial Bank Ltd where you’ll get an 8% interest rate on FD Nabil bank will give you 6.5% only on FD. Most banks are paying quarterly interest however you can ask them before fixing if their monthly interest paying option is available or not. 2. Also I want to deposit in Fixed Deposit. Is there any bank providing that facility that I want to deposit suppose to a big amount and want to take back after 8/10 years later with compound interest in a total. I do not want quarterly. interest
Hi Divyaa, mostly debentures are safe to invest and definitely debentures always have higher interest rate than FD..

I have 20 lakhs wanted to deposit in bank to earn good interest. I’m saving this money to buy land sooner in future within 1.5 years. I’m okay do 3 months term FD. Can you suggest me which bank will be suitable for me with pros n cons.
Hello Ajay jee, kindly go with Global IME bank where you will get 6.5% for 3 months. This is the most trusted bank in Nepal.
hello sir,
i have been informed recently by MBL bank staff that they have a new interest rate of 7.5% on FD for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and so on.. I want to know that the interest 7.5% will exactly be added after 3 months or we should wait for 1 year to get full ineterest rate..? thanks
Shekhar jee, if you already have any existing fd it remains on same interest rates what the rate was at fd opening time. No changes in interest rate untill you withdraw or renew your fd. If you renew or open new fd account the 7.5% interest rate will applied from the first day until its maturity.
Students haruko lagi kun bank suitable hunx hola???
hi,
Admin Namaste..!
I saw some of your replies in queries which attracts me to comment here. My query is about FD. I am outside Nepal every month I used to deposit to my account but I am planning to make my deposit to FD for better interest rate, is it possible via online? I highly appreciate your reply
@bishnu.effortsinfo@gmail.com
Hi Bishnu jee, Yes it’s possible to open a fixed deposit account online. There are two ways first is mobile banking and the second is internet banking. Many banks have the fixed deposit option on their app or web. So just in a few clicks, you can create or open a fixed deposit. But some banks will call you back through phone or social media platform, verify the details and your identity after then they will open a fixed deposit for you.
Earlier you have mentioned that the interest rate is 5%.
Does there is any special case where we are taxed less. Like in some countries there is no tax in FD for Senior citizens or those who earn less than 10000 in a financial year.
Ashok jee, as you mentioned the special case and senior citizens tax benefits provided in many countries including India but, till now in Nepal there is no such facilities to the citizens.
How much loss in interest or penalties do we bear if we withdraw our money before its maturity?
Ashok jee, if you withdraw FD before maturity one quarter (3 months) of interest will not given as penalty.
Sir, in Nepal which banks provide loans against FD, and how much interest rate do they charge?
And in Nepal how flexible is FD, I mean to say for how long can we deposit our money like its minimum period is 3 months and the maximum can be?
And you also haven’t mentioned the rates of Standard Chartered Bank.

Sir if I deposit 10thousand rupees per month till the year it will be around 1 lakh 20 thousand on saving account and make it to fixed account for annual year i want to know if I repeat this process upto 15 years how much money I can get through fixed deposit please let me know its a humble request
Hi Bishal, the interest rates are always changing so it’s difficult to figure out the accurate maturity amount. Let’s make this simple to figure out the approx maturity amount. Let consider for 15 years each month you are depositing 10,000 at an interest rate of 8% (which is in between of saving and Fd). Then the total deposit amount in 15 years is 18,00,000 and the total interest you earned is 10,86,000 so after maturity, you’ll get 28,86,0000. After tax deduction, you will get around 28,31,700.

sir can we transfer money into online gambling sites from any bank debit card ??
Yes you can Binit jee but not with normal NPR debit cards, you need dollar debit cards or travel prepaid cards from any Nepalese banks.
Which investment is best between F. D and debenture. How, please sir give me advice
How can we earn compound interest in Nepal ?
Mailee Shrestha jee you can’t get compound interest in any banks directly, alternatively investment in any trusted cooperative or in any finance institution like (Manjushree finance, Gurkhas finance) where interest rate is always higher than class A or B banks. As your compared the interest at end of the year you get very minimum difference between compound and normal interest.
